Laying the groundwork for Singapore's next phase of growth
As business conditions shift and technology accelerates, this year's Enterprise 50 (E50) winners show how local companies are adapting to stay competitive and future-ready. Across sectors, they are reworking operations, deepening capabilities and finding new ways to grow - whether by advancing sustainability efforts, deploying artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, expanding into regional markets, or investing in talent and technology. Even long-established brands are refreshing their offerings to meet changing customer expectations.
Together, these home-grown small to mid-sized enterprises illustrate how reinvention at the firm level strengthens the foundations of Singapore's economy and prepares it for the next phase of growth.
E50 winner DLM is contributing to one of the nation’s biggest transitions – the shift towards low-carbon, energy-efficient buildings.
A leading engineering contractor for some of Singapore’s most ambitious Super Low Energy and Zero Energy developments, DLM’s work helps to shape how buildings consume, distribute and conserve energy.
Its teams design advanced ACMV networks, high-efficiency chilled water systems, hybrid cooling technologies and electrical installations for developments such as Al-density data centres and advanced manufacturing facilities.
The company’s impact is best seen through a few of its standout projects such as Applied Materials Tampines
Industrial Crescent BCA Green
Mark Plutinum building, DB Schenker’s Positive Energy Red Lion 2 warehouse and Takeda Pharmaceuticals
Zero Energy building – each setting a benchmark in reducing operational carbon.
Its ongoing projects include the New Science Centre and the Tuas Megaport Global Supply Chain Hub.
Beyond project delivery, DLM is also playing a part in sustainability innovations that could boost the country’s green buildings movement. Under a Green Buildings Innovation Cluster research grant, the team co-developed a Passive Displacement Cooling Coll – a low energy convection-based system now undergoing real world testing at JTC Summit.
DLM was also part of industry working groups that developed technical references such as TR141 for Hybrid Cooling Systems and TR102 for Passive Displacement Cooling influencing how future buildings will be cooled.
At DLM, manual tracking and paper-based workflows have been replaced with an Al driven project monitoring platform. The use of Building Information Modeling coordination has helped the company detect design clashes early.
As DLM managing director Joseph Goh notes the company’s participation in green initiatives such as City Developments Limited’s SME Queen Bee Decarbonisation Programme and its development at a company wide Decarbonization Roadmap show how environmental responsibility has become intricately woven to DLM daily operations.
As DLM focuses on decarbonizing the grid and built environment,
Millenium 3 Building Products (M3) is doing the same for the total ecosystem – especially data centres that anchor Singapore’s digital growth.
Keeping these facilities cool is critical. For 25 years, M3 has supplied the essential infrastructure behind many of Singapores data centres – from raised access floors and structural grid ceilings to precisely engineered hot and cold aisle containment system.
Its clients include Amazon Web Services, Digital Realty, Equinix, Keppel DC, Meta Singtel and ST Engineering.
Founder and managing director Flora Lee notes that the rise of Al is driving a sharp increase in data-centre demand – and with it heavier energy loads. By partnering with infrastructure solutions provider Tate, M3’s engineered containment systems help counter this by minimising thermal beak age and stabilising temperatures, significantly reducing the peer needed to cool server racks that are working at full tilt to process Al models.
It will soon introduce containment systems made with 50 percent recycled polycarbonate, with all polycarbonate and aluminium elements fully recyclable at end of life.
By partnering with Milliken – EcoVadis Gold rated producer – M3 can offer carpet and floor covering that reflect stronger environmental considerations, including lower water usage, reduced carbon intensity and responsibly sourced material.
On the home front, M3 has also recently installed a rooftop solar photovoltaic system to green its own operations.
Beyond DLM and M3, this year’s E5O cohort reveals a broader shift. Sustainability now deeply impacts the operations of businesses across a wide range of sectors.
Kim Hock Bee Marine has installed solar panels to generate power for lighting on is rigboats which are plugged into land based electrical sources while docked.
Tri Star industries powers its Singapore facility and other regional factories with solar energy, significantly reducing its carbon footprint.
Maxsteel Enterprise and Dascen have adopted rooftop solar systems, EV logistics and zero waste processes in traditionally resource intensive sectors of industrial materials and agri-food supply chains respectively.
