Job Description
The Project Engineer plays a key role in managing and executing complex electrical projects—ensuring adherence to timelines, budget, safety, and quality standards. The role supports the Project Manager in all stages of the project lifecycle and contributes to technical, operational, and administrative aspects of project delivery.
Job Responsibilities
Project Planning
- Contribute to project engineering activities including electrical design, installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Assist in the preliminary design and budgeting for Design and Build tenders, ensuring accurate estimations and alignment with client requirements.
- Support the Project Manager in the execution of project management tasks, including the development and monitoring of project schedules, coordination with subcontractors, and ensuring efficient workflow.
Site Monitoring and Progress Update
- Conduct on-site inspections, capturing progress data through digital forms, photos, and checklists, and ensure accurate updates to the central project management system.
- Monitor actual vs planned progress, track key performance indicators, and report potential clashes or critical delays to the Project Manager promptly.
- Coordinate closely with drafters, procurement, and other departments to ensure seamless integration of site activities with overall project plans.
- Support the creation of digital progress dashboards and contribute to automated reporting to facilitate management reviews and improve data-driven decision-making.
- Identify and flag site-level risks, manpower shortages, or material issues early, supporting proactive resolution.
Stakeholder Management
- Facilitate regular project review meetings, ensuring that all team members and stakeholders are kept informed of progress, challenges, and upcoming milestones.
- Liaise with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to coordinate daily and weekly activities, ensuring clear communication of expectations and timelines.
- Address on-site queries from clients or consultants professionally, escalating to the Project Manager as needed.
- Support relationship-building efforts with all stakeholders to maintain trust and foster collaborative problem-solving.
- Facilitate on-site walkthroughs or updates for client, consultants, or management, preparing necessary visual and technical summaries.
Documentation Management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records, including daily reports, progress logs, inspection checklists, technical drawings, and other required documentation.
- Ensure proper tagging and archiving of documents to facilitate traceability and compliance with quality standards.
- Contribute to standardising documentation practices to support organisational knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Support the preparation of periodic reports and project updates for internal and external stakeholders.
Change Management
- Support the implementation of new processes, digital tools, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Act as an on-site change advocate, helping colleagues adapt to new workflows and ensuring consistent use of new systems and methods.
- Provide feedback on change initiatives to identify on-the-ground challenges and contribute to refining implementation strategies.
- Assist in monitoring adoption rates and flagging recurring issues or resistance to enable targeted coaching or support.
Risk Management
- Identify, document, and report potential on-site risks, including safety, schedule, quality, or resource issues, to enable early intervention.
- Support the Project Manager in maintaining the risk register and ensuring mitigation actions are implemented promptly.
- Promote a proactive risk-aware culture among subcontractors and site teams by highlighting potential hazards and encouraging preventive measures.
Job Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering works.
- Educational Qualifications: Diploma in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- Technical Expertise: Strong technical knowledge of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, cabling works, and ELV/low-voltage systems.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with local electrical codes, authority requirements, and industry regulations to ensure compliance with standards.
- Project Management Skills: Proven ability to manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively, ensuring efficient and timely project delivery.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, contractors, and project teams.
- Software Proficiency: Proficiency in AutoCAD, electrical design software, and project management tools.
- Analytical & Troubleshooting Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail to resolve issues efficiently.
